Maybe it isn't as great of an example as I thought. "Pallor" is spelled with two "l"s. It means extreme paleness as from fear, illness or death. "Palor" is just nonsense.
As for Pat's comment, I'm not going to bring it up. The town hospital, visible from miles away, has "hopital" written on the side. Misspellings are common.
I have to say my favorite of all time is "Caol." First off, think about how you would pronounce that. There is a Japanese MMA fighter whose name is Carl Uno, but because of the accent, his parents spelled his name "Caol." I laugh every time I see him fight.
